Introduction of the department
An independent Department of Urology at Bharati Vidyapeeth University Medical College and Bharati Hospital, Pune is functional since 01 Jan 2015 Since then it has progressed in leaps and bounds and at present department is fully equipped and performing all types of Urologic Surgery including endoscopic and laparoscopic.
M Ch program was started in 2016 with two seats and two batches have successfully completed their training and are successfully doing their individual practice in urology. Third batch will come out in Sept 2021.

- Dept is running successful M Ch program since 2016.
- The College has also applied for increase of M Ch seats to 05 from present two.
- Dept has experienced teaching faculty with expertise in all sub specialties.
- Dept is fully equipped with all latest urology equipments
- We have well trained technical staff in dept
- Dept is being shifted soon to new Superspeciality building with all departmental out door facility at same floor in one conglomerate

- We have a 30 bedded urology ward
- All urology diagnostic/ Therapeutic services are available at the hospital
- Radiological, Lab, Blood Bank services are state of the art
- Urodynamic, uroflowmetery, ESWL and TRUS guided biopsy of prostate are available in the dept.
- There are regular Uro Radiology meetings to discuss difficult cases
- A well-equipped Dialysis Centre is available in the hospital.
- Renal Transplant is likely to start soon

- There is regular teaching activity for residents in the dept as per NMC guideline
- Faculty also participate in teaching activities of PG ( Surgery Residents) and UG students
- Residents are encouraged to take part in academic activities at state, national and international level
- Residents regularly participate in conferences at national/international level
- All residents are encouraged to publish at least one or two papers in national/international journals of repute with good impact factor
- Dept always have running 5-6 departmental research projects which usually culminate in publication
- Urology Society of Pune also organizes inter departmental teaching programs in the city involving urology residents of all five Urology teaching hospitals of the city

Senior faculty is regularly invited as examiner by universities outside the state and by NBE
Hospital is planning to appoint panel consultants that will enhance footfall of patients and help residents to learn from them also
Research & Publications
Research & Publications
Residents are encouraged to participate actively in research projects in the department and are encouraged to publish 1-2 papers before completion of their training.
Overall 20 papers have been published by faculty and residents in peer reviewed national/international urology journals in last 06 years since the inception of the department.
All thesis of the residents are usually converted into publication
All residents also have to present one podium paper and one poster in national or state level conference before completion of training

Faculty and residents actively participate periodically in community services by participating in free operating camps / prostate diseases awareness activities organized by some NGOs
Department organizes community teaching activities for general practitioners
Department successfully organized a live operating workshop on prostate surgery in 2016 with good participation from national and international faculty.
