Temporal bone dissection lab was established in 2003 in the Department of ENT with blessings of our Late Chancellor Dr Patangrao Kadam. It is crucial skill development lab for Otologist. For Post-graduate ENT students it is mandatory to do dissection for basic understanding of Middle ear anatomy and its important relations. Also it plays important role in professional life of practising ENT Surgeon, as prior to any new otological procedure or after a difficult situation in surgeries, one longs to do dissection for better understanding. . From 2003, every year three workshops were conducted, 6-7 candidates per workshop. Special workshop for State Government ENT Surgeons, Neurosurgeons and for visiting delegated from Iraq have been conducted. Till date 322 ENT Surgeons have availed the facility of dissection lab.

On 20th and 21st August 2018 ENT department celebrated Golden Jubilee (51st workshop) event of this activity. For Golden Jubilee event, eminent surgeon from Nanavati Hospital, Dr.K.P.Morwani and Dr.Madhuri Mehta from Hisar were invited for inauguration. The occasion was graced by Dr. S. Lalwani, MD & VP, BVDUMC and Senior Faculties from hospital and college. Dr.Vinay Vijayendra from Bangaluru was guest faculty on second day.

For this special event, Department had added 8 more dissection stations thus total of 16 stations were set-up. Two groups, one for PG and another for consultants were demarcated, each given two bones. This time special feature was Facial Nerve. First day approach was Trans-Mastoid while second day approach was Transcanal, as was demonstrated by Dr. Vijay Vijayendra. The dissection was evaluated and best dissected bone prize was given one in each category (PG and Consultant). The activity was supported by Pune chapter of ENT surgeons too.

At the end of workshop, feedback were taken to fine tune or incorporate newer suggestions in future workshops.

As goodwill gesture, Dept felicitated three MPWs from Anatomy Dept and clerk from ENT Dept.
